Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp states Manchester City will be the best group on earth.
Liverpool are high in their Premier League table after an ideal start and are five points clear of reigning champions City.
However, Klopp believes City – who have averaged 99 points at the two Premier League seasons – remain outstanding to his Liverpool side.
“We may not qualify as the best team in Europe since Manchester City are the best group on earth – and that’s the same world I have heard,” Klopp said before Liverpool’s Champions League opener against Napoli.
“There are a whole lot of good teams out there and you need to prove that [you are up there with the finest ] constantly.
“Last year, people had been really excellent. I’m not sure we had been the best team in Europe, but we were very good in the right moments and that is the reason why we won the Champions League.”
Liverpool beat Tottenham 2-0 in last season’s Champions League final to win their sixth name, but Klopp says his team won’t feel helpless by heading into this year’s contest as winners.
“We do not feel the burden because I really don’t know precisely how that should really feel to be honest,” said the German.
“It’s long ago. Three or four weeks. The issue keeps coming up regarding whether groups will play . I don’t have any clue to be fair.
“I never went into a Champions League season, winning the Champions League the year earlier, thus we’ll experience that [together for the first time]. I hope we are prepared for this.”
