Argentina’s President Cristina Fernandez Kirchner traveled to Venezuela this week to meet with President Hugo Chavez to discuss, amongst other things, meat. The two met in Caracas to discuss, and sign, commercial and energy agreements which would serve to benefit both nations. As part of the deal, Venezuela has agreed to buy 1,000 tons of Argentine beef per month, as well as wheat and milk. They will also continue to send fuel to Argentina, which Kirchner hopes will aid the current energy crisis in her country. Kirchner was also there to lobby Chavez on joining MERCOSUR, the South American Common Market, in order to secure Venezuelas rich oil resources.
