With an ongoing energy crisis, and the harsh reality of rolling blackouts looming, Argentina is banking on Bolivia to increase energy production immediately. The crisis, which has been going on since last winter, has left Argentina scrambling for viable solution to its gas and oil shortage as the winter draws nearer. Both Argentina and Brazil have had long-standing energy contracts with their Bolivian neighbors.
The problem is that the current amount of purchased oil and gas is not enough. Last month, the Argentine government signed an agreement with Bolivia that would increase gas imports by a third, yet they’re still running short of their needs. Brazil has already declined a request by Argentina to purchase a percentage of their gas and oil resources, citing that they cannot afford to sell energy that could potentially sink them into a similar crisis.
