Adam Carloni, 13, of Calgary, Alberta, has decided not to return to Argentina to play professional soccer at the behest of his parents. Carloni had been participating in a youth development training camp held by Argentine 1st division soccer club Vecinos Unidos of Rio Tercero. Carloni, along with 21 others, was offered a position with the club after successful camps in July and November 2007.

Though practically unheard of in North America, professional soccer teams often accept players in their early teens onto their squads. Carloni’s parents decided that at 13, school was more important for the development of the young phenomenon. He will, however, continue to play with Calgary’s under 18 team, Calgary United.
