Two separate incidents of violence between fans and police left two dead and hundreds injured at soccer matches this weekend in Argentina. The first incident happened in the northern city of Salta, where a 17-year-old girl was struck and killed by a bullet in the head while walking to a game between Gimnasia y Tiro and Central Norte.

The other incident happened in Buenos Aires, where 21-year-old Emanuel Alvarez was shot on his way to the Velez Sarsfield, San Lorenzo game on Saturday night. Reports say his bus was ambushed by a rival fan group on the way to the match. News of the incident triggered fan riots at the stadium, and hundreds of people were hospitalized as a result of confrontations with local police. There have been roughly 224 deaths in Argentine soccer matches since the first was reported in 1939.
