Finding Legal Labor is a Laboring Process in Argentina

According to Daniel Karlin of Expat Argentina, working legally is not only hard to do in Argentina, but also rare. An estimated 30-60% of the workforce in Argentina works undocumented, for cash. This is mainly due to the sizable benefits employers must pay for a legal employee, which are about 45% of his/her base salary.

Though immigration is not a major problem in Argentina, it still exists. However, most of the illegal labor problem stems from Argentine citizens, who are often compensated as if they had immigrated illegally. On the other hand, many travelers looking to extend their stay through working here will find it easier than expected. But don’t expect an American salary. Your typical Argentine earns anywhere between $800 and $2,000 pesos monthly, which is equivalent to about $260-$650 USD.
