Protesters March en Masse on Argentine Capital

Last night, thousands of angry protesters hit the streets of Buenos Aires to protest Argentine president Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner, and the current situation in el campo. The large, organized groups comprised of labor unions, political parties, and social organizations. Though the groups varied in origin the message was clear; they were upset at Kirchner’s handling of the now almost three-week-old farm strike.

The marching began at the Plaza de Mayo in the city’s center and continued through downtown until the heavy rains dispersed the crowds. There were banners, drums, and even horn sections bellowing out chants, songs, and grievances. This march took a decidedly different tone from the ones in previous weeks. There was a palpable fervor in the crowd. There were no pots and pans, and no fights. This time the message was loud and clear, the people want change now.
