Mendoza’s Santiago Achaval, co-owner of Bodega Achaval-Ferrer and consultant for the Vines of Mendoza private vineyard estate project, was recently awarded the honor of having three of last year’s top ten wines worldwide. All three of the Achaval-Ferrer group’s wines scored marks of 96 points or higher from Robert Parker of The Wine Advocate, in his annual review of the year’s best wines. Parker is considered one of the world’s foremost authorities on reviewing wines.

This is an extraordinary achievement, considering that the Achaval-Ferrer winery is still relatively new, founded in 1999. Only two other local wineries were listed in the top ten: Vina Cobos and Bodega Catena Zapata. You can try some of the Achaval-Ferrer wines, as well as various others selected by Santiago Achaval, at the Vines of Mendoza tasting room in downtown Mendoza.
