Maria Cristina Gomez Pinto, 60, and her former husband Osvaldo Rivas, 65, were charged and sentanced to 8-10 years in prison for kidnapping a girl who they raised as their daugter during Argentina’s “dirty war”. The couple, along with former soldier Enrique Jose Berthier, took the baby from her parents who was “dissapeared” as political dissidents in 1978 in Buenos Aires.

The baby, now 30, learned of the true identity of her parents in 2001. Sources claim that anywhere between 5,000 and 30,000 political dissidents in Argentina were “dissapeared” during the country’s “dirty war” period in the 70s and 80s. This is the first conviction of its kind.
