Apparently Ernesto “Che” Guevarra isn’t the only Argentine destined for Cuba. The controversial carribean country has awarded Argentina as the top source of tourists to their nation in 2008. The Cuban Tourist Promotion and Information Office claims that around 38,000 Argentines traveled to Cuba in 2007. Good relations between both nations, a surging Argentine economy, and a growing Cuban tourist industry are all cited as reasons for these numbers. Unfortunately its not a two-way street, however, with government restrictions prohibiting many Cubans from leaving the country. On the other hand, Argentina has bolstered its tourist numbers this past year, with Buenos Aires claiming over $110 million dollars in cruise-based revenue for 2007, a 38% increase over 2006.
