Argentine congressman Lorenzo Pepe is asking COMFER, Argentina’s national broadcast regulatory committee, to prevent a recent Simpsons episode from airing anywhere in the South American nation. The controversy is over the perceived image of former Argentine leader Juan Peron, who The Simpsons portray as a dictator responsible for the disappearance of thousands of people during his many terms in office. The Peronist party still holds power in Argentina, and influence politics in many realms of the current government.
In an interview with Radio 10, Pepe said that the “ignorant” US had no business “interfering” in the affairs of Latin America. He also accused The Simpsons of trying to “poison” Argentine society.
