There’s a debate going on a popular travel forum over whether or not Salta is Argentina’s smokiest city. Smoking is banned in restaurants and other businesses in Buenos Aires, Rosario, and Ushuaia. Most of the country, actually, has made great strides in controlling public smoking and improving the indoor air quality for business patrons. Salta, however, has not. According to the forum thread, in Salta you can smoke in restaurants, medical facilities, banks, elevators, malls, and virtually every other business. Some people believe that this should be listed as prominent information in guide books about Salta, to warn tourists of the potential health risks of visiting the city.
