Spice Up Your Life with Aji Molido, a Traditional Argentine Flavor

Argentine food is not typically known for its spices. Sure, there’s always the traditional chimichurri with choripan, but outside of that, your choices for flavor additives are relatively slim. So if you’re sick of the kosher salt, mayo, and mustard options for your cooking, give Aji Molido (crushed red pepper) a try. Food blogger and steak enthusiast Marc of Asado Argentina has posted a review of the local, slightly spicy seasoning. It’s the perfect addition to your Asado, pizza, pasta, or general starches. Though it lacks in heat, he says the flavor “tingles your tongue,” and is lightly sweet and smokey with hints of tobacco and dried fruits. Unfortunately, Aji Molido is not easy to find in most restaurants, but you can buy it at some grocery stores including Gaucho Gourmet and Amigo Foods.
