Upstart Little League Brings Baseball to Argentina

1 Comment Print

Move over soccer, baseball is making its way to Argentina one pitch at a time. With the help of his friends, some youngsters, and perseverance, Jorge Marcelo Ramia is building a foundation of baseball for Argentina’s youth. Dubbed the “king of baseball in Argentina,” Ramia has hand-built fields, provided kids uniforms, taught them the game, and organized little leagues in Buenos Aires and other cities around the country.

His goal, like any other youth sport organizer, is to give kids something positive and constructive to do. He also hopes to change the culture of sport in his country, so kids have other options than soccer if they choose to excel in athletics. Though he has an uphill battle to fight, Ramia knows that the talent is out there, it’s just a matter of finding it, and providing the structure to cultivate it. Even if baseball is short lived for many of these kids, it can provide structure, guidance, and teach them maturity, which will help them in all aspects of life as they grow older.

Thanks so much for your article. My dream is arrive one day with our Little League Bbaseball Team to play the Latin American LL Tournaments and, who knows, to play the LL World Series by ESPN.
Is my dream and believe me, Argentina can do it.
Our problem to participate is the big difficulty to fly with our kids.
Thanks again,
Regards
Marcelo Ramia
