Online Travel Mag Targets Gay Market for Argentine Tourism

With the travel industry booming in Argentina, it’s no surprise that online travel magazines and city guides are becoming big business here. Guided tours of BA, wine trips to Mendoza, trekking in Patagonia, and sightseeing in Salta are all popular themes that are bringing the industry big bucks. Now, there’s a new niche market that’s turning heads, and generating a huge profit. Gay tourism in Argentina, and specifically Buenos Aires is on the move, and moving fast. It is estimated that around 20% of all foreign travelers to Argentina are gay, and one company is capitalizing on those numbers.

Travelgay is an Argentine website targeting gay travelers, to provide them with themes, tours, and activities which cater to the gay lifestyle. The company also provides a map which points out the city’s “gay-friendly” businesses. Buenos Aires is considered to be one of the most open and non-discriminant cities in South America towards homosexuality. In a flooded tourist market, niche branding is key, and Travelgay seems to have their finger on the pulse.
