Expat blogger Shanie of Living in Patagonia wrote an interesting post on the Andean Condor, which is the largest bird of prey, and lives exclusively along the Andes mountain range in South America. The bird’s wings stretch 10 feet across, is 4 feet tall in its prime, and weighs between 20 and 30 pounds. Shanie writes of how big they looked up close, after seeing a family of them feasting on a carcass on the way back from a ski trip at Las Lenas. The Andean Condor is also known for its nesting ritual, hiding deep into the mountain cliffs for 2 years until its young is raised. If you’re in Patagonia, make sure to get a glimpse of one of these local giants, as they truly are a spectacle to see.
