Attendance at this year’s Buenos Aires International Film Festival (BAFICI) set a record for ticket sales, selling 170,000 for the 13-day event. This was a 63% increase over last year’s gathering. During the almost two-week period, over 1,000 films were screened throughout the city at various venues. Mexican film “Intimacies” took the festival’s top prize, with hundreds of other awards being given in multiple categories. This week, Buenos Aires continues its festival theme with the city hosting an International Book Fair beginning on April 26. With tourism on the rise and an improving local economy, festivals such as these are an important factor in solidifying the city’s reputation as the cultural and art hub of South America.
