BA Street Jugglers Face Traffic, Time Lights to Avoid Harm

It’s a scene which is not so uncommon for those who live in Buenos Aires. You’re at a red light in a vehicle on a 4-lane intersection and suddenly, a juggler appears in the middle of the crosswalk, facing traffic, and begins to put on a show. The juggler has mere seconds to complete his/her act, solicit money, and run off before getting plowed by oncoming cars and trucks. The Argentine Post wrote a great profile of one of these courageous jugglers, and how he honed his act on Ave. Libertador in Martinez, just outside of the city. It’s a job that takes passion, commitment, and bravery, and is definitely not for the faint of heart. When the light turns green, the cars start going, whether you’re in front of them or not. Though rare in other parts of the world, this type of street entertainment is popular in the bustling capital and its suburbs. Performers will often work 6 to 8 hours a day at the same intersection without skipping a beat, or dropping a juggling pin.
