Princess Maxima Cerruti of The Netherlands returned to her home city of Buenos Aires this week to attend a business seminar, meet with President Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner, and to visit family and friends in the Argentine capital. The princess was born and raised in Buenos Aires, and lived here for most of her life before marrying Dutch Prince Willem-Alexander in 1999. The visit comes at a critical time for Argentina, as the people are still reeling from the farm strike, and the government is suffering from a PR nightmare over it’s handling of the crisis. Though she virtually holds no real power, Princess Maxima is a source of pride for the Argentine people, as she represents the South American nation within the circles of European royalty. Princess Maxima also serves as council to the United Nations on global economics and economic strategy.
