The Jewish community center in Colegiales, a middle-class neighborhood in northeast Buenos Aires, has received a donated Torah, after an almost year-long campaign to bring it there. The Torah is a sacred holy scroll which is read as part of many religious ceremonies in the Jewish faith. They are made in Israel, and are considered a very valuable and rare item. This Torah was donated to the Chabad-Lubavitch center by Roberto and Zully Goldfarb as a good faith way to commemorate their wedding. Local Jewish officials see this as a symbolof the community’s rapid growth, and are thrilled to receive this kind of rare and precious gift. Argentina, specifically Buenos Aires, has the largest Jewish community on the continent, and it continues to grow.
