Boca Juniors, River Plate to Clash Sunday in 180th ‘Superclasico’ Soccer Match
May 2, 2008 Click to Comment → PrintIt has been called the best soccer rivalry in South America, and some say the world, and Sunday, as the country watches, Boca Juniors will take on River Plate for the 180th time. The two teams are bitter rivals, and matches are a big event in both Buenos Aires and around the rest of Argentina. This year’s match will be held at the Bombonera, in the La Boca section of the city. Traditionally, Boca is known to be the team of the working class, and River the team of the elite, however these lines have been increasingly blurred in recent years. Soccer is more than just a sport in Argentina, it’s a passion. Sunday’s match should be a good one, considering that both teams are at the top of the standings, currently vying for sole position in 1st place.
