A senior US Homeland Security official is in Buenos Aires on a diplomatic mission, and will return almost 4,000 kilograms worth of fossils to the state. The fossils, which include baby dinosaur eggs, petrified pine cones, and fossilized crabs, were seized by the United States earlier this year at a gem show in Tucson, Arizona. According to officials, the goods were seized due to reliable information that they were illegally removed from Argentina to be put on sale in the US. Diplomatic relations between the two countries have been cold recently, due to a money laundering controversy surrounding president Kirchner’s campaign and the Venezuelan government.
