‘Tanghetto’ Mixes Classic Argentine Sound With Modern Beats

5 Comments Print

Music blog The Music Vagabond has written a review of an Argentine band known as Tanghetto. The name, which is an obvious play on words, is derived from Tango and Ghetto. Though it’s not a traditional tango band, the group infuses tango rhythms with electronic beats to create a sound that is truly their own. In fact, the group is part of a larger music scene which is gaining popularity in both South America and Europe, known as Neo-tango. The band currently has seven members, and includes a horn section, as well as a traditional Chinese instrument known as the Erhu. The sound, though unique, still holds true to the classical tango melody with seductive movements, abrupt pauses, and crying violins.

Tanghetto s new cd El Miedo a la libertad for me is the best electrotango record. It has a unique sound with elements of tango, jazz pop and electronica.

The songs I like the most are El Testigo, English Man in New York(a bandoneonist in New York), El Miedo a la libertad, and Buscando Camorra.

Tanghetto played here in Puebla (mexico) and their live show is just amazing and powerful. Absolutely one of my pics when it comes to the so-called “world music”. They are hype but they do transmit feelings and emotions with their music. I love this band.
