The Buenos Aires government announced that from May 26th to the 30th the city will be repaving the barrios of Velez Sarsfield, Monte Castro, Palermo, La Paternal, and Villa General Mitre. Residents and visitors alike know the city’s reputation for broken sidewalks that keep people looking at their feet—and not enjoying the beautiful views of many areas. The broken sidewalks can also be a problem for women with strollers, the elderly, and people walking at night. Now, the Ministry of Public Space and Urban Development is tackling this problem in a wide reaching plan lasting throughout the month of May and beyond. So far, they have finished 445 blocks and have also fixed a number of roads and potholes.
