This Thursday, May 29th, the 6th Annual Tango Dance Metropolitan Championship will begin at a variety of different milongas across the city. According to the website TangoData, the competition is a chance for couples to compete in the same spaces they dance in all year long.  Another aspect of the competition that makes it unique is that the public, at least in the qualifying stages, gets to vote for who goes on to the final rounds. Their selections, along with judges’ picks, go to the semi-finals. Lasting more than a month, the competition is a kind of tango-democracy; any couple can register and try their luck. The winner of the competition gets a cash prize and has the honor of representing Buenos Aires in the World Tango Dance Competition.
