The mayor of Buenos Aires, Mauricio Macri, gave a speech on May 25th, the anniversary of Argentina’s May Revolution, calling for Argentines to “renew their dreams.” Speaking in Las Heras Park, he asked people to help Argentina take its place in the world by assuring that jobs and education would be available to all citizens. His hope that they “continue to dream in the face of conflict” was a welcome message of hope and forward-thinking on a national holiday overshadowed somewhat by large protests in Rosario by farmers. Stressing the importance of the kind of dialogue that helped to found the nation during this historic time in 1810, Macri seemed to rise above the politics that are currently keeping Argentines from “renewing their dreams.”
