Architecture Competition to Capture Spirit of Argentine Bicentennial
Jun 9, 2008 Click to Comment → PrintTo celebrate Argentina’s bicentennial in 2010—200 years since the Revolution of 1810 began in the Plaza de Mayo—the nation is holding an international architecture competition to design a “new†skyline for Buenos Aires and a symbol for Argentina in the 21st century. According to Fox News, the area that the architect must re-imagine is a large swath, stretching from Costanera Norte to the La Boca neighborhood, passing through Puerto Madero, Retiro, and Plaza San Martin. The competition is ambitious to say the least, and strives to make Buenos Aires a city that looks over its river, like London and Paris. This will certainly be a change from today’s city, which is often described as having its back to the waters of the Rio de la Plata.
