Guillermo Klein, internationally acclaimed Argentine jazz pianist and composer, and his band are playing today through the 15th at the Village Vanguard in New York and then will move on to the JVC Jazz Festival in August. Klein was born in Buenos Aires, studied in Boston, played in New York, and had children in Spain; his obvious restlessness and his love of home create much of the tension in his music. According to AllAboutJazz.com, he may seem far removed from his native land, but Argentine music—especially Argentine rock—has had a profound impact on his style. In Argentina, he is known and loved by young jazz musicians who site Klein as one of their biggest influences.
