The Argentine men’s field hockey team beat the Netherlands on their home turf in the Champions Trophy, putting them at the top of the leader board for Tuesday. The victory was a nail biter, with Argentina winning with a late second half goal by Juan Ignacio Gilardi. The Champions Trophy is the International Hockey Federation’s most prestigious tournament and it has been running since 1980. The women’s team, Las Leonas, won this tournament earlier this year and the men may also do so, showing that Argentina is a true world power in field hockey. Both the men and the women will soon have to defend that claim in the Olympics. Their next game is today against Spain.
