Argentine tennis player Juan MartÃn Del Potro defeated Jürgen Melzer to move to the number 25 position in the ATP rankings. According the BBC, the Mercedes Cup, held in Stuttgart, Germany and on clay courts, is Potro’s first career title. The win makes Potro one of three Argentines in the top twenty; the other two are 7th ranked David Nalbandian and 19th ranked Juan Monaco. Only 19 years old, Potro said that he was thrilled to win a tournament, which had been a childhood dream. Along with the title, he won a new luxury convertible. If he wants to keep it looking nice, he better keep it off the streets of Buenos Aires!

[...] Juan Martin Del Potro’s amazing winning tennis streak was cut short Wednesday in the quarter-finals of the US Open by British player Andy Murray. According to The Scotsman, Del Potro went down in the game early, fighting hard but losing the first two sets to Murray in tie breakers, 7-6 (7-2) and 7-6 (7-1). Del Potro fought back, winning the third set 4-6, but lost control in the fourth set, 7-5, to end the match. A game a great energy and excitement, the match lasted for three hours and 58 minutes. Murray’s win sets up a semi-final match between him and the number one seed, Rafael Nadal. He is the fifth British player to reach the semi-finals in the era of “opens†in tennis.
