The Cristo Redendor Tunnel, which connects Argentina and Chile, was reopened yesterday at 9am. According to the Diario de Cuyo, it had been closed Monday due to a heavy snow fall on the Chilean side that blocked the tunnel, preventing trucks carrying goods from passing between the two. In winter, this is not an uncommon occurrence, but it is important to get the tunnel reopened as quickly as possible. This tunnel is near Mendoza and is next to a large statue of Christ, which stands on the border between the two nations and symbolizes their friendship. Tourists can visit the statue, and see the tunnel that connects the two nations, by taking bus trips from Mendoza into the heart of the Andes.
