An episode in the 19th season of the Simpsons in which Juan Domingo Perón appears as a dictator was not aired this Sunday by Fox. The Simpsons is incredibly popular in Argentina, with posters of Homer drinking Duff beer hanging for sale outside kiosks and reruns airing what seems like every night on one channel or another. However, the satire that the show relies upon seems to have offended many Argentines in this one episode, which calls Perón a dictator and refers to his wife Evita as Madonna (who played Evita in the film). According to Cordoba.net, Argentines are divided on whether or not the episode should have been aired. Local Fox officials said that they decided to respect a sensitive social issue by not playing the episode. However, while some Peronists have been offended by the episode, other Argentines have now written on the Fox news site that they are against such displays of censorship.
