Argentine President Cristina Kirchner, Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, and Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez met in Buenos Aires yesterday. According to The Age, this meeting was going to just be a bilateral meeting between Argentina and Brazil, but Chavez became involved at the last moment, making it a meeting between what Chavez calls the “main axis†of South America. After the meeting between the leaders, Chavez was very open with the media, telling them that the leaders were thinking of creating a South American gas pipe line that would stretch 8,000 kilometers. They leaders will meet again in September, when perhaps the ramifications of this potential partnership will be a little clearer.
