Space Invader Artist Invades Argentina

An unknown artist is decorating the buildings of Argentina—and many other countries around the world—with mosaics depicting the invaders from the classic video game “Space Invaders.” This strange artistic endeavor, done in the dark of night, celebrates the 30th anniversary of the game, designed in Japan by Toshihiro Nishikado in 1978. The mosaic style allows the depiction of the space invader to appear in its early, ultra-pixilated form. According to the Clarín, the anonymous initiator of the movement has a website in which he claims that while some call him an urban contaminator, some an artist, he prefers to think of himself as a “space invader.” It is probable that the mosaics are now being created by many different people around the globe, so it hard to say if we really have the original space invader among us in Argentina.
