First World Klezmer Festival in Argentina

The first World Klezmer Festival, named EMMKA, starts today in Buenos Aires and continues through to the 21st of September. Klezmer music is traditional Yiddish music, According to the official website, KlezFiesta, the festival’s goal is to show that Klezmer music is accessible and enjoyable to people from all traditions and backgrounds. Argentina, with such a large Jewish population, shares many of the same roots as Klezmer artists in Europe. There will be groups performing from Argentina, the United States, and Europe, and many of the events are free, including today’s opening ceremony.
