Sunday night at the Bombonera Stadium in Buenos Aires, the Boca and Independiente soccer teams tied in a highly contentious match. According to Goal.com, the score was 1-1 and, before the game was over, Independiente had been reduced to only nine players on the field. Early in the second half, Boca managed to get in the first goal of the game but it was cancelled within three minutes by a responding Independiente goal. Two players, Daniel Montenegro and Guillermo Rodriguez, were sent off of the field for violent tackling and arguing, making it all the more frustrating for Boca that they couldn’t capitalize on Independiente’s weakness. In other Apertura news, River Plate tied with Arsenal 2-2 and Velez Sarsfield barely beat Estudiantes de La Plata, 1-0.
