The company RÃo Tinto, which is a global mining giant , has announced that it will invest 170 million dollars in the port of Bahia Blanca, a city south of Buenos Aires on the Atlantic Coast. According to Reuters, they are planning to build a terminal in the port of Bahia Blanca to export potassium chloride (potash). The terminal is being built to support RÃo Tinto’s other major project in Argentina, a 900 million dollar Rio Colorado mine in Mendoza that they are constructing this year. When the Rio Colorado min is running at full capacity, it will make 2.4 million tons of potassium chloride per year, making it the number five global producer of potash in the world. This project will also include the building of railroad to bring the chemical from Rio Colorado to the port.
