Money for Workers’ Children Increasing for Second Half of 2008
Sep 18, 2008 Click to Comment → PrintThe head of Argentina’s state-run workers’ fund, along with President Cristina Kirchner and Hugo Moyano, union leader of the CGT, announced yesterday that they had reached an agreement about raising funds for workers’ children. According to International Herald Tribune, the amount of money given to each child will go up by 35 to 50 percent within the year. This change will affect more than 4 million children of active workers and 230,000 children of retirees and will cost the government around 128 million dollars in 2008 alone. This increase is extremely important, as inflation in Argentina is making peoples wages worth less and less. While the government claims that inflation is only 9 percent right now, independent analysts estimate that it is closer to 25 percent per year.
