The mayor of Madrid, Alberto Ruiz Gallardón, and the mayor of Buenos Aires, Mauricio Macri, signed an agreement on Wednesday promising that the two cities would continue to work together. According to the city government website, the mayors want to ensure that the economic, cultural, and commercial relationship between the cities is strong. Included in their signed agreement is the creation of a new “Mixed Committee,†with members from both countries, to oversee the implementation of their goals. The committee will meet at least once a year. The two leaders met in Buenos Aires, and Gallardón was given the keys to the city and treated, of course, as an honored guest. Obviously, Spain and Latin America have a long and complex history together, so any steps toward mutual cooperation and aid are appreciated on both sides.
