There are twelve architectural projects currently proposed to be the new symbol of Buenos Aires. According to La Nacion, the symbol, whatever it ends up being, would be constructed in Buenos Aires prior to the celebrations for the bicentennial of the nation, in 2010. The voting thus far has been done by a panel of judges which includes President Cristina Fernández, the Buenos Aires mayor Mauricio Macri, and the architects Mario Roberto Alvarez y Rodolfo Machado, among others. Now that they have narrowed it down to twelve, though, the vote is being opened up to the public. The twelve finalists are on display at the Abasto Shopping Mall on Corrientes and among the finalists are a new bridge in Puerto Madero, a digital building displaying images of the past, and a 100 meter tall fountain.
