The Argentine government has decided that, beginning January 2009, they will charge all foreigners whose home nation charges Argentines to visit a fee to enter the country. For Americans, the fee will be around 134 dollars, the amount that Argentines are charged when applying for a visa to visit the United States. According to The Argentine Post, the fee will bring Argentina about 40 million dollars every year in revenue. Interior Minister Florencio Randazzo says that while there will still be no visa requirements, this fee should be looked on as a “reciprocity” fee, since it is only fair that Argentines and Americans be charged alike. The same will apply to tourists from Canada, Australia, and any other nation that charges Argentines to enter their country.
