This past week, the wheat harvest began in Argentina as the first three percent of wheat was harvested. There are a total of 4.4 million hectares of wheat in Argentina, though some fields were lost in the last week due to the hail storms in parts of Buenos Aires Province. According to Weekly Times Now, Argentina is expected to produce a total of 11 million tons of wheat in this year’s harvest, which is down 28 percent from the year before. So far, yields are only 0.86 tons a hectare, which is low perhaps because the harvest right now is in the drought plagued Northern provinces like Jujuy and Salta. Soybeans, sunflower seeds, and corn are all other important Argentine crops and all three are in the planting process this week.
