President Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner signed deals with the Algerian leader Abdelaziz Bouteflika for a civilian nuclear energy contract.  She stressed the importance of the alliance between Argentina and the North Afirican country, citing the importance of relationships between developing nations.  The Herald quoted her as saying, “Argentina and Algeria can develop a fruitful relationship in terms of commerce, strategy and energy.”  Argentina was one of the first countries to recognize Algeria as a sovereign nation in 1962 and Algeria’s sole nuclear reactor was built by Argentina in 1984.  Cristina is currently on a six-day tour of North Africa.
