With its bright neon sign beckoning the curious passersby, it’s no wonder that La Fabrica del Taco is making waves in the Palermo dining scene.  The picnic-styled sidewalk bar is usually brimming with hungry, happy folks while further inside, there lies a funky red locale with everything from tiny luchadors to original artwork.  The back garden hosts the top-shelf bar, where a Mexican celebrity themed painting of the last supper keeps the tone jovial.

lafabrica06The taqueria’s one page menu has a range of options priced between 7 and 18 pesos.  You can break the bank if you want to, but this laid back meeting spot has plenty of choices.  There are the typical tacos of meat, chicken or veggie and more elaborate meals for the adventurous diner.  Try a Mexican hamburger with avocado or plop some special cilantro on an old favorite.  The cornerstone of the menu is the Taco de Pastor, which to the untrained eye, resembles a kebab.  Similar though altogether different, the meat is marinated for two days and is absolutely unforgettable.  Patrons can choose between a homemade taco of flour, corn, or lettuce for the diet conscious.

But no matter where or what you choose to chow down, there will always be a selection of three distinct hot sauces before you.  The poco picante is the mild sauce  (or Argentine sauce) that adds just the slightest spice to your taco.  The medium sauce is picante regularlafabrica01, which adds a bit more flair but doesn’t burn.  The hottest is named “for those who dare” and lives up to its name.  Definitely proceed with caution… or beverage.

Specialties to the house include a drink called Chavo, after the popular Mexican comedian of the same name.  The secret is in the Jamaican red rose flower, which is imported dried and distilled with cane sugar to make this ruby red delicacy.  One can also find Mexican staples on the menu, like Corona and Miche– an iced drink served with lime and the taste of the beaches of Acapulco.

There are weekly drink specials, like Margarita Wednesdays, while the back patio has been a stage several times to live bands.  As the restaurant grows, expect to see more innovations and delectable dishes.  Folks are already stopping by on a daily basis because this plastic-plate taqueria serves up culture with every bite.

My girlfriend and I have gone here a couple times over the last couple weeks, great place! I was surprised that it wasn’t in the Guia Oleo, do you know if it’s newer?

It opened in September, so perhaps.
