Dining
As I sit writing about the food options in Bariloche, I find my mouth watering in excitement. Yep, it’s that good. Bariloche offers an impressive array of excellent restaurants, and cuisines.
Well, we are in Argentina, so lets start with the most obvious – the parillas. El Boliche de Alberto is a Bariloche favorite with the best steak around. One any given night this place is packed so make sure you give yourself time to wait. The food has big flavor and big servings. Many diners go for the heaping pile of french fries alongside their steak, a monster salad, and numerous bottles of wine. You CAN NOT leave Bariloche without eating there. My recommendation, go in numbers. It’s a ton of food and a great way to share the meal and the company. If you are in San Martin de los Andes and looking for a great steak house, the local favorite is Ku. Great food, great atmosphere, and great dessert.

On the opposite end of the spectrum are the vegetarian, all natural restaurants – I told ya there was a wide range in cuisines. El Vegetariano in Bariloche is a personal favorite with a simple menu and a cozy ambiance. Pura Vida in San Martin is equally as delicious and healthy. If you need a cleansing night after those big juicy steaks these are great options.

Other Bariloche options include an impressive fondue from La Marmite, a more upscale Argentina/French fusion dining option from Kandahar International Restaurant or the classic regional dining experience at Familia Weiss which specializes in their deliciously smoked meats and cheeses, and their locally brewed beers.

If you are looking for something sweet, you have come to the right place. The European immigrants who settled in Argentina after World War II have left their mark, and in a very positive way. This part of the country is known for the beautiful lakes, the awe inspiring Andes Mountains, the outdoorsy adventures, AND the chocolate shops. You can’t miss them! The local Bariloche favorite is Mamushka and in San Martin Abuela Goye usually wins the best overall award for flavor, atmosphere, and friendliness. But there is no reason to not check out as many as possible while in the area.
The ice cream is equally as tempting. Jauja creates the biggest buzz in Bariloche and El Bolson where the Dulce de Leche Helado is difficult to keep in stock.
