I am planning a trip to Argentina in December with my family of 5, kids ages between 7-12. I have seen something about the stone fields near Iguazu (hito de las tres fronteras), but do not see it mentioned on this site. Is this a total tourist trap? Are the Wanda mines a better bet for us? Also wondering if anyone knows of any family-friendly estancias.

Hi beriflei, let me find out for you. I haven\'t heard of either of those trips, but that\'s not a sign that they aren\'t worth it. Since most people fly to the falls and back, few end up taking side trips.

I Put the Bueno in Buenos AiresHi berlflei. Though I haven\'t been, I\'ve heard good things about Wanda. It\'s a 4 peso admission fee, and there are many semi-precious stones and other rock formations which would be great for your kids. It\'s only about 40 km from Iguazu, and is near some interesting Jesuit ruins as well. The whole area is rich with gems due to all the minerals from the water in the falls. Hope that helps. The best way to get to Iguazu is to fly. Puerto Iguazu is crowded with the tourists and people moving through the region. The “3 Frontiers” is the very high point where visitors can gaze over the extraordinary panorama of the meeting of the Iguazu and Parana rivers and see the landmarks showing the frontiers of Paraguay and Brazil. Visit Iguazu National Park to discover spectacular Iguazu Falls. The Wanda Mine is about 45-50 km from Puerto Iguazu, and I think you should use the chance being in a region and see as much as possible, and with the help of professionals it will be much easier.

Hi Beflflei, There are many stone fields outside of Puerto Iguazu that were developed by the Wanda Mines. The production of the stones, however, has been stopped, and now it is a basically a field, that yes, tourists go to visit. It did not come recommended by the tour operator that Argentina\'s Travel Guide employs for our trips. However, the Wanda Mines are recommended as a half day excursion from Puerto Iguassu.
As for a family friendly Estancia, any of the local estancias will do, but it depends greatly on your budget and the day of the week. Also, would you want to spend the day at the estancia or spend the night? With a little more information I can help you narrow it down.
