On Monday, Christina Kirchner, the President of Argentina, signed an agreement with the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) pledging cooperation with UN agencies to help solve the world food crisis. As one of the major agricultural producers of the world, Argentina can play a large part in helping alleviate that crisis, which is why Kirchner has been in Rome, meeting with the UN Secretary General. Today, a high-profile food security summit begins that will include heads of states from around the world discussing the problems of food and energy. It is hoped that these leaders will reach some short-term solutions that will get help to those who need it as quickly as possible.
