On Monday night, Melody Celatti, 19, and Jose Fernandez, 22, won the Stage Tango competition, making Argentina’s victory in the World Tango Championships complete. On Sunday, Argentine couples had won first and second place in the Salon Tango competition. Stage Tango is more formal than Salon Tango and more theatrical in its costumes and presentation. The Stage Tango dancers said that they had been practicing non-stop the last four months in order to capture the “essence of tango.” According to The Associated Press, a jury of professional dancers and choreographers judged the over 400 dancers who participated in the event. Both winning couples received 4,100 dollars in prize money.
