Advertising is everywhere in Buenos Aires. Billboards, bus sides, soccer jerseys, and even street signs are all fair game for product advertisement in the capital. But now, as one blogger writes, taxis are joining in on the ad blitz with headrest televisions broadcasting streaming ads with audio to passengers. Paisleychick of Beatrice M’s Blog writes about how these cab ads can ruin a ride, and are an intolerable imposition on a passenger who has already paid for a service, a quiet ride. Though this type of advertising isn’t new, it is new to Buenos Aires. Taxis are a relatively cheap and efficient way to get around the city, and often the preferred method of travel for visitors who may be overwhelmed and confused by the local bus services. The question she poses is, is it worth it? If the trend continues, a quiet, peaceful cab ride may be a thing of the past.
