Silvia’s Vineyard, located in the wine country of Mendoza, is named after and dedicated to Silvia Azar, who died of breast cancer four years ago. According to Star Tribune, Miguel Azar and his wife Silvia moved to the United States from Argentina in 1960, just at the time that they married, and eventually became professors for many years at the University of Minnesota. They had six children there, three of whom remain in Minnesota. Miguel now lives in Argentina once again and is working on his vineyard. The wines that they make include a wine called Solemne Torrontes and a fine Cabernet Sauvignon. Most of the profits from selling the wine go to the Silvia Azar Breast Cancer Foundation, allowing Miguel to make the wine “a fitting tribute to her.”
